How Jib Crane Works?
A jib crane operates by picking, transporting and placing loads in a given, circular or semi-circular work zone with the help of a horizontal arm (jib) atop a vertical base. It is made to be effective in repetitive lifting jobs in factories, workshops, warehouses, and industrial facilities.
The crane consists of a jib arm, vertical column or wall mount, hoist and trolley system. The hoist moves vertically and the jib arm moves horizontally during operation, thus enabling the load to be moved to the absolute position of the point where it is to be relocated.
Load Lifting
The jib arm has a chain hoist or a wire rope hoist attached to which the load is secured. After switching on the hoist (either manually or electrically) it lifts the load up and down.
Horizontal Movement
The trolley to which the hoist is connected slides the length of the jib arm making it easy to move the load horizontally.
Rotational Movement
The jib swivels on a column or wall-mounted bracket that is vertical. The crane can be designed with 180, 270 or 360 rotation (depending on the design) and with a short radius of operation.
Load Positioning
Jib crane is a lifting, trolley, slewing crane that allows the operator to place the load in the most precise and controlled position, taking the least effort on the part of the operator.
FAQS
Jib crane refers to a material handling crane used to move and lift materials in a small area of work. It is made of a horizontal arm (jib) on a pillar or wall and the hoist is on the arm. The crane turns around the point of mounting; therefore, helps in the easy transport of materials in the radial direction around the point of mounting that is required.
- Pillar Mounted Jib Crane
- Wall Mounted Jib Crane
- Wall Traveling Jib Crane
- Articulating Jib Crane
They are all customized to industry application and workspace requirements.
Jib cranes have lifting capacity of between 250kg and 10 tons depending on their design and application. Jib cranes available in the industry have high capacities and arm reach that can be designed to incorporate heavy-duty.
Most industrial jib cranes are either 180, 270 or 360 rotational, such that, an operator could have a high level of coverage of an area of work.
- Manufacturing plants
- Warehouses and logistics centers.
- Engineering workshops
- Automobile industries
- Construction of buildings and textile factories.
They help to improve the efficiency and reduce the manual work.
A pillar mounted jib crane is fixed on a column mounted on the floor and has the complete rotation in comparison to wall mounted jib crane that is fixed on a column or a wall of the building and has a degree of rotation of 180 or less. The other one will be space and operation based.
Yes, it is possible to have a jib crane that is customized to fit specific industrial requirements since it can be configured basing on lifting capacity, arm length, angle of rotation and hoist type.
- Materials are man-managed effectively.
- Space-saving design
- It is simple to install and use.
- Increased workplace safety
- A reduced amount of labor and great productivity.
The choice of the required jib crane depends on the following factors; load capacity, arm length, workspace, type of installation and how frequently it is used.
